Bernardo Fortuna is a young Portuguese writer born in Malpique, in the parish of Caria, municipality of Belmonte, in the Beira Interior region. He grew up in this area and showed an early affinity for writing, beginning to develop his creative style in his youth.
Despite having spent periods of his life abroad — studying in Italy and living in Belgium and Asian countries — it was in Covilhã that he settled to dedicate himself more intensely to his literary career.
Bernardo graduated in Economics, but it is in literature that he has made his mark. In 2023, he debuted with the work “O Grande Ato” (The Great Act), published by the CISMA Cultural Association, a book that explores themes such as love, loneliness, identity, and existentialism through an original and symbolic narrative.
In addition to this book, he has also written for the theater, and his play “Felizmente Sãozinha” (Fortunately Saintly) was staged by director Manuel Tur.
Bernardo Fortuna is considered one of the emerging voices in contemporary Portuguese literature, with writing that combines philosophical reflection and poetic sensibility.
