The community artistic action “Todos Somos o Outro” We are all the other) for the 12th edition of WOOL has the support of BPI | “la Caixa” Foundation, Farmácia Covilhã and REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais.

“Todos Somos o Outro” (We are all the other) is a community artistic action that invites hundreds of hands to weave a large smyrna carpet, stitch by stitch. Each participant creates a 30cm square which, when joined with all the others, will form part of a collective piece.

This is also an invitation to meet and collaborate, made possible through the work sessions that will take place at the Covilhã Centro de Ativ’idades or through the kits that will be available at various locations in our city, which can be picked up, made at home and delivered afterwards, allowing everyone to participate, at their own pace, in their own space.

More than a carpet, “Todos Somos o Outro” is a gesture of empathy: a way of getting to know those who are different from us and realising that we have more in common than meets the eye. That’s why we can say that at the end of this action, the many voices of the Covilhã community will be represented in this work, without distinction of age, colour, ability, nationality or origin. Because deep down, each point is unique, but they all tell the same story: that we belong together.

The A Avó Veio Trabalhar (Grandma Came to Work) project is an initiative that aims to combat social isolation and promote the digital inclusion of the elderly, through the development of intergenerational activities that connect older and younger generations. Through workshops, events and training programs, the project creates opportunities for older people to get involved in the job market in a way that is adapted to their conditions and experiences. It also seeks to value the knowledge and experiences of senior citizens, while helping to improve the quality of life and social well-being of the participants.
